Antônio Carlos Jobim (1927–1994), also known as Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian composer, pianist, guitarist, and singer, widely regarded as a primary force behind the creation of the bossa nova style. His compositions, including "The Girl from Ipanema," "Desafinado," "Wave," "Corcovado," and "Águas de Março," have become jazz and pop standards. Jobim's innovative blending of samba rhythms with jazz harmonies brought Brazilian music to a global audience, and his collaborations with artists like João Gilberto, Stan Getz, and Frank Sinatra helped popularize bossa nova worldwide. His legacy endures as one of the most influential figures in 20th-century music.
