"My Immortal" is a piano power ballad by the American rock band Evanescence, released in 2003 as the third single from their debut album Fallen and also featured on the Daredevil film soundtrack. The song was written by Amy Lee and Ben Moody when they were teenagers, with Moody writing the lyrics and Lee composing the music on piano; early demos date back to 1997. There are two main versions: the band version on Fallen with guitar, drums and bass and an orchestral layer arranged by Graeme Revell, and a version used on the album that Lee later said she preferred with fuller strings arranged by David Campbell; the label initially released the older demo on Fallen against Lee’s wishes. The lyrics describe a lingering spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one, and the music blends delicate piano with symphonic textures. The track was a global success, reaching the top ten in over ten countries, peaking at number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topping charts in Canada, Greece and Portugal, with Platinum certifications in several regions. Its black and white music video was shot in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona and directed by David Mould, earning an MTV Video Music Award nomination for Best Rock Video, while the song received a Grammy nomination in 2005. A new arrangement appears on the 2017 album Synthesis, continuing to showcase the song’s enduring impact.
